As most of you should know by now, Apple had plans to release a redesigned Apple Watch Series 7 with flat edges and display. But, unfortunately, the company had to keep the old form factor for yet another year due to mass production issues.

The only reason behind the increased display size is that Apple had already prepared the panels for the redesigned model and millions of bands and other accessories that had “41mm” or “45mm” engraved.

Apple engineers worked day and night to solve these issues and avoid delays in shipments, but they couldn’t do it on time.

If you remember last year’s September event, the company didn’t give any details about the release date of the Apple Watch Series 7; we had to wait until October to buy a new one, and the stock was minimal.

So What About the Series 8?

Apple is working on three different models this time. The Apple Watch Series 8, a new Apple Watch SE, and a Sports edition.

If you remember, I shared renders with you that showed what I thought was the Series 8 design. I still think that the picture my source sent me was from that model, although Apple’s plans to release a new SE model make me a little suspicious. I’ll let you know if I get more information about it.

So far, I haven’t heard anything about a complete redesign, although some sources claim the Sports edition will be focused on a more extreme kind of user. Therefore it will use different materials and have a different design to make it harder to break.

I don’t know if this means it won’t look like anything we’ve seen yet, or, contrary to that, it will look just like a Series 8 with extra protections and different materials. I’m trying to get some pictures of prototypes Apple is working on, so stay tuned.

Lastly, I want to say that according to some people familiar with the matter, Apple is planning a complete redesign of at least one of the three models that will be released in 2022. Given that there are no plans to release an Apple Watch SE in 2023, it will either be the Sports version or the regular Series 9.
